This study has some clear limitations. First, several critical confounding factors were not included in data collection. These include symptoms like hyperactivity and inattention, parental involvement levels, and any previous psychiatric ARTICLE IN PRESSARTICLE IN PRESS ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT treatments. Excluding these factors may have introduced bias affecting the results. Second, important moderating factors such as motivation, stress levels, and time management skills were not measured, which could partly explain the absence of a direct link between problematic smartphone use and academic outcomes. Third, the study depended solely on self-reported questionnaires. This method may reduce accuracy because participants might have provided incorrect estimates of their smartphone use or mental health symptoms. Such inaccuracies threaten the reliability and validity of the findings. To improve future studies, it is advisable to use longitudinal designs that monitor participants over time, incorporate objective tools for tracking smartphone behavior, and apply advanced statistical methods like structural equation modeling. These approaches can better illuminate causal relationships and mediation mechanisms underlying the observed associations.
