Abstract The impacts and potential multidecadal variability of cyclones of tropical origin (CTOs) remain poorly understood, particularly when these events make landfall or pass near Europe (named CTO‐Es) or cause measurable impacts in Europe (named CTO‐EIs).
Apart from addressing the accuracy issue, key open questions mainly concern the generalisation of the results from this study. This study can also be regarded as a proof-of-concept anal- ysis, leading naturally to further work on the role of diabatic processes, including but not limited to moist processes, in the evolution of SJs.

The time series length was limited to 30 min to avoid non-stationarity issues, which poses a fundamental difficulty as longer time series are required to capture larger turbulent eddies observed at timescales of tens of minutes.

The assumption of stationarity over 10 min or longer intervals is problematic in tropical cyclones due to rapid increases in wind speed and pronounced changes in wind direction, yet the Mann model assumes horizontally homogeneous, stationary turbulence fields.
It also simulates higher TC track density over the eastern Pacific and the North Atlantic, while TC tracks are relatively sparse within CPL and SLAB for these regions.
