The three hardest weeks in a PhD

The weeks before a conference deadline. Your advisor has nine other students. Your committee is on sabbatical. You need somebody to tell you whether your methodology is sound and your lit review is complete — and you need that answer today, not next month.

That is the specific problem we built this for.

What you get in the first 15 minutes

Upload a draft manuscript (PDF). The 8-agent pipeline runs in parallel with a 12-second prior-publication check across six external databases. You get back:

  • A numeric overall score (1-5) with acceptance-rate calibration.
  • A per-section structured report — methodology, statistics, figures, literature, language, reproducibility.
  • Missing citations surfaced from a 250M-paper OpenAlex corpus.
  • Figure-by-figure readability notes (colourblind safety, caption completeness).
  • A prior-publication report so you don't get caught overlapping with your own preprint.
  • Actionable revision suggestions that are specific enough to copy into your to-do list.

Finding research gaps before you commit

We also index 17,000+ research gaps derived from OpenAlex's 250M-paper corpus. Each gap has a canonical URL with the top surrounding papers and a suggested study design.

If you are still scoping a dissertation chapter, spend 20 minutes on /research-gaps in your field. Most of what shows up is a hint at a 6-month paper that nobody is working on yet.

The honest workflow

We recommend a specific workflow to PhD students who email us:

  • 1. Draft aggressively. Do not polish yet.
  • 2. Run through our pre-submission scorer. Get the 8-agent report.
  • 3. Fix the top 3-5 issues (usually methodology clarity, missing refs, figure quality).
  • 4. Show the fixed draft to your advisor for 30 minutes instead of 3 hours.
  • 5. Submit to your target journal in much better shape.
  • 6. Optionally cross-submit to Science AI Journal for the open-access record.

Frequently asked questions

Pre-submission scoring is free for everyone. Full journal publication is free for accepted papers — we do not charge APCs. If you are at an institution that wants to sponsor the journal, see the institutional page.
