  • Thoughts on cross-cultural studies on the epidemiology of depression (1978) · Culture Medicine and Psychiatry · doi

Current research methods have limitations, including differences in the definition of depression, diagnostic signs, and variations in professional contact with potential cases. Many ethno-cultural groups do not demonstrate any of the psychological components of depression associated with its presence among Western groups. There is a need for a new approach to the cross-cultural study of depression.

  • ‘Things You Do’ and Mental Health in Turkish Adolescents and Adults: Validation of the Turkish Version of Things You Do Questionnaire-15 Item (2026) · Psychiatric Quarterly · doi

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study used a community based sample; future studies could conduct psychometric examinations on treatment seeking samples. Secondly, the relationship between the TYD and depression, anxiety, and life satisfaction was exam- ined using a cross-sectional design which does not provide evidence for causality, although has been determined in previous studies (e.g., Bisby et al., 2024). Finally, the use of differ- ent samples within this study may have affected the findings, although we have no evidence that this occurred. It is recommended that future studies examine the relationship between the Turkish version of the TYDQ-15 and mental health using experimental and longitudinal studies and with more diverse samples.

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences and Mental Health Among Adolescents, Young Adults, and Adults: Mediating Roles of Positive Childhood Experiences and Resilience (2026) · Psychiatric Quarterly · cited 1× · doi

The ascendancy of this study is that it discusses the relationship between ACEs and anxi- ety and depression in adolescents, young adults, and adults through PCEs and resilience, further enriching the understanding of the adverse effects of ACEs. At the same time, this study also has some limitations. First, this study relies on cross-sectional data for discussion and has certain limitations in explaining the causal relationships among variables. Future longitudinal follow-up or experimental research may further enrich the explanation of these variables. This study relied on self-report surveys, which may involve social desirability bias and inaccurate self-perceptions. Future research should combine subjective and objec- tive methods to strengthen validity and reduce bias. Finally, this study is based on scales conducted in the context of Turkish culture, and its interpretation in cross-cultural studies may need to be further strengthened. To overcome this limitation, researchers advise con- ducting comparative studies on individuals from different cultures and in the context of dissimilar regions.
