The question remains whether a carefully designed social studies program can have an impact on the perceptions of other people that primary grade children develop. An investigation of elementary school level social studies curriculum guides has shown some attempts to integrate the intercultural dimension at this level, but the analysis also revealed that a number of these guides contained implications and unintentional references that may actually foster negative attitudes or anti-global education views.

Previous research has reported inconsistent findings regarding age, with some studies showing no association and others reporting differences depending on context [26,7]. These inconsistent results suggest that progression through the curriculum alone does not necessarily appear to be associated with reduced negative attitudes, and that structured and continuous integration of intercultural content may be worth exploring in future curriculum development.
