- A Preliminary Study on Rapid Quantitative and Qualitative Detection Methods for Apolipoprotein E4 in Plasma (2026) · medRxiv · doi
Further investigation is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms of ApoE4 protein detection. The study suggests that simultaneous detection of total ApoE protein levels might solve the problem of distinguishing APOE ε4 homozygotes and heterozygotes. Further research is needed to develop new diagnostic tools for Alzheimer's disease based on ApoE4 protein detection.

Prior work studies early life risk factors in isolation from each other, which can lead to an inflation in their estimated contribution to dementia risk. The current study addresses this gap by simultaneously analyzing multiple early life risk factors in a single model. The study also controls for APOE ε4 genotype, which is a known risk factor for dementia.

Prior studies have not examined the relationship between APOE genotype and common infections in a large sample size. The study fills a gap in the literature by examining the association of APOE ε2 and ε4 carriage with serostatus and antibody titres to 14 common pathogens. The study provides new insights into the potential mechanisms by which APOE genotype affects Alzheimer's disease risk.
