Although our results do not encourage the use of current pregnancy reports for the estima- tion of fertility levels or age patterns, their potential for the analysis of fertility differentials or trends in fertility has not been investigated. Even when relying on the 5-7 month formula, there is simply too much underreporting of pregnancies, which unfortunately varies widely in magnitude in different countries.
