The effect of specific probiotic strains should be investigated to under- stand better the influence the have on the gut microbiota. The relationship between the gut microbiota, exercise, probi- otics and glycemic control also needs to be explored in depth. In particular the mechanisms whereby Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Bacteroides influence the gut microbiota warrant further investigation as these have been found to be reduced during pregnancy (Chen et al.

To minimize potential confounding from diet and lifestyle, all participants received standardized lifestyle recommendations throughout the study. These included a daily breakfast containing approximately 50 g of oats as a practical dietary-fiber source, water intake of at least 1,500 mL/day, and at least 30 min/day of brisk walk- ing. These recommendations were uniformly applied to both probiotic and placebo groups. Adherence was monitored using participant dia- ries and returned sachet counts. However, detailed dietary intake was not quantitatively recorded, which is acknowledged as a limitation. 2.3 Study protocol 2.5 Safety monitoring This was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Randomization was conducted upon considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Qualified participants were randomized according to a 1:1 ratio to the two arms of the study according to a computer- generated list, assigned to the probiotic or placebo group with 2.5.1 Strain genomic safety: virulence and resistance genes Genomic DNA of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Probio87 was extracted using the STE method. Future research should focus on exploring synergistic dietary intervention strategies that combine probiotics with other dietary components to optimize the management of AD. Moreover, some studies have suggested that supplementation with dietary fats (such as gamma-linolenic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, and arachidonic acid), vitamins and pancreatic enzymes and may also exert beneficial effects on the incidence of AD in infants (97–101), although the evidence remains limited and the efficacy requires further investigation.
