This study had some limitations. First, using a secondary dataset constrained recruitment and sample composition. Although the non-partner participants included children, parents, siblings, friends and colleagues, their small numbers limit the ability to examine potentially 1 3Journal of Gambling Studiesmeaningful differences in how different non-partner AO groups experience and respond to gambling harm. For instance, parents and adult children of those who gamble may differ in their support needs and strategies used, which are distinctions that warrant dedicated exam- ination through future qualitative work using purposive sampling. Additionally, because these interviews were collected for a broader phenomenological study, the sampling strat- egy and topic guide were not tailored specifically to the present aims, which may have constrained saturation on some relational and support-related issues. Finally, interviews were conducted during COVID-19 restrictions in Australia, which may have shaped both gambling behaviour and AO coping strategies in ways that differ from non-pandemic condi- tions. However, interviewees often drew on experiences that extended beyond the immedi- ate pandemic context, suggesting that many of the themes identified are likely to remain relevant outside this period.

Future research should recruit larger, geographically diverse, and more representative samples from different regions of Türkiye to improve the generalizability of the findings and provide more accurate estimates of gambling prevalence. Longitudinal studies are also rec- ommended to clarify the temporal and potentially causal relationships among parental attitudes, resilience, and gambling behavior. Moreover, future research should continue examining resilience as a moderator while incorporating broader individual, familial, social, and cultural factors that may contribute to gambling behavior. In addition, future studies should consider adjusting for important demographic vari- ables, such as age, gender, and income, to determine whether the observed associations remain robust after controlling for these poten- tial confounding factors. Given the highly zero-inflated distribution of gambling severity observed in the present study, future studies should consider applying statistical approaches specifically designed for zero-inflated or count outcomes (e.g., Poisson, negative binomial, zero-inflated, or Tobit models) to evaluate the robustness of these findings. Studies including larger samples of individuals who actively engage in gambling would also facilitate more reliable moderation analyses and provide further evidence regarding the protective role of resilience. Finally, intervention studies evaluating resilience-enhanc- ing and family-based prevention programs would provide valuable evidence for reducing gambling-related harm.

Given that gambling is socially stigmatized in Türkiye, participants may have underreported gambling-related behaviors because of social desirability bias, which may partly explain the relatively low SOGS scores observed in this study. Although the findings contribute to the limited literature on gambling behavior in Türkiye, they should be interpreted within the context of the study sample and should not be considered nationally representative.
