  • From spice to sepsis therapy: Mechanistic perspectives on the anti-sepsis therapeutic potential of curcumin (Review)  (2026) · World Academy of Sciences Journal · doi

Sepsis is a severe, life-threatening condition resulting from an overwhelming host response to an infection. It continues to pose a challenge in critical care due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. Sepsis is associated with systemic inflamma- tion, immune dysregulation, and diffuse organ malfunction and requires immediate and appropriate therapeutic inter- ventions. Curcumin has been considered as a supplement in the management of sepsis owing to its anti‑inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-modulating effects. As aforemen- tioned, preclinical and early clinical studies have shown that curcumin influences the key pathways of the sepsis cascade by inhibiting proinflammatory cytokines, reducing oxidative stress, and modulating immune responses. Given its multifaceted effects, curcumin may reduce the severity of sepsis, improve outcomes, and reduce serious complications such as organ failure. These results, although encouraging, warrant further studies in terms of their activity and safety profiles to define their optimal role in the management of sepsis, especially in larger clinical trials. In-depth studies are therefore warranted to fully elucidate the therapeutic poten- tial of curcumin in the management of sepsis. Optimization of the bioavailability and delivery methods for curcumin should be the primary focus, as poor absorption and rapid metabolism limit its clinical applications. Improvements in nanoparticle-based delivery systems or formulation advance- ments may enhance the potency of curcumin. Clinical trials of curcumin may be necessary to define its optimal dosage and duration of therapy and to identify possible interactions with standard sepsis therapies. Furthermore, the synergistic effect of curcumin can be increased when used concurrently with other therapeutic agents, thereby providing a more effective and multidimensional treatment approach. The therapeutic incorporation of curcumin in sepsis management will depend on a deeper understanding of its pharmacoki- netics and mechanisms of action, ultimately enabling clinical translation and fostering innovative strategies for more effective treatment.

  • HERBAL TOPICAL FORMULATIONS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF MELASMA: PHYTOCONSTITUENTS, MECHANISMS, AND RECENT ADVANCES (2026) · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research) · doi

9.1. Integration with nanotechnology One of among the most promising methods to improve the effectiveness of anti-melasma formulations is the combination of nanotechnology and herbal treatment. Conventional herbal creams and gels frequently have drawbacks such limited stability, poor solubility, insufficient skin penetration, and quick active chemical breakdown. These difficulties can be solved by phytosomes, nanotechnology-based such carriers liposomes, niosomes, nanoemulsions, lipid solid nanoparticles (SLN), and nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC). These systems preserve and enhance the dermal absorption of bioactive herbal substances such as quercetin, glabridin from licorice, catechins from green tea, and curcumin from turmeric. For instance, research has demonstrated that SLN gels enriched with curcumin lessen pigmentation more successfully than traditional creams. In a comparable way, licorice extract liposomes reduce increasing bioavailability and skin penetration into the epidermis. These nano-formulations' controlled release characteristics enable long-lasting therapeutic activity, frequency, and improve patient compliance, making them an effective treatment for long-term ailments like melisma. improve epidermal retention and irritation while lower dosage and and lack extract quality, thorough carefully planned 9.2. Evidence-based herbal therapy scientific Evidence-based methods validation are essential for the future of herbal therapy in the treatment of melasma. Although preclinical research has shown promise for several herbal drugs, clinical data is frequently restricted because of small sample numbers, of inconsistent standardization. To assess effectiveness, safety, and results, long-term randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using standardized herbal extracts and contemporary administration methods are required. For research to be repeatable and consistent, turmeric or like curcumin active in standardized.

  • COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF TURMERIC AND ITS MAIN COMPOUND CURCUMIN (2026) · GLOBAL JOURNAL OF PHARMACEUTICAL AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH · doi

Curcumin continues to attract considerable attention because of its broad pharmacological activities and favorable safety profile. Although substantial progress has been made in understanding its therapeutic potential, several scientific and technological challenges remain. Future research should focus on improving curcumin's bioavailability, validating its 1331 | Global Journal Of Pharmaceutical And Scientific Research, Volume 2, Issue 8, August 2026, ISSN: 3108-0103 Yadav et al., Comprehensive Study Of Turmeric And Its Main Compound Curcumin clinical efficacy through large-scale trials, and developing advanced delivery systems to facilitate its translation into routine clinical practice. Emerging technologies such as nanomedicine, precision therapeutics, and artificial intelligence are expected to further expand the scope of curcumin-based therapies (Kunnumakkara et al., 2017; Hewlings & Kalman, 2017). 8.1 Emerging Therapeutic Applications Recent research suggests that curcumin has promising applications beyond conventional disease management. Ongoing studies are investigating its role in immunotherapy, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, antimicrobial resistance, autoimmune diseases, metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer therapy. Curcumin is also being explored as an adjunct to chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy to improve therapeutic outcomes while reducing treatment-related adverse effects. Furthermore, advanced biomaterials incorporating curcumin are being developed for wound healing, bone regeneration, and targeted drug delivery, highlighting its expanding biomedical applications (Gupta et al., 2013; Salehi et al., 2019). 8.2 Personalized Medicine Advances in pharmacogenomics and precision medicine have created new opportunities for the individualized use of curcumin. Future therapeutic strategies may involve tailoring curcumin formulations and dosage regimens according to a patient's genetic profile, disease characteristics, metabolic status, and treatment response. Personalized nanoformulations and targeted delivery systems have the potential to maximize therapeutic efficacy while minimizing adverse effects. The integration of biomarkers and genomic data may further facilitate the development of customized curcumin-based therapies for chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disorders (Nelson et al., 2017; Kunnumakkara et al., 2017).
