Research gap analysis derived from 3 medicine papers in our local library.
The gap
The study notes that disparities remain, particularly in low-and middle-income countries, where healthcare inequities and socioeconomic barriers compound stigma. The study identifies a lack of correlation between the volume of publications and global health HIV-related indicators, highlighting the need to translate evidence into actionable strategies.

- Identifying Health Care Services Offered in the HIV Care Continuum via a Machine Learning–Based Topic Modeling Approach: Exploratory Literature Review (2025) · JMIR Public Health and Surveillance · cited 3× · doi
HIV-specific barriers, including stigma, discrimination in health care settings, and individual risk factors, exacerbate the vulnerability of people living with HIV to dropping out of care. The study faced the challenge of analyzing a large number of studies, with 11,269 articles screened and 204 studies meeting the inclusion criteria. The distribution of topics exhibited a distinct pattern, with health care service diversity being the highest in the earlier stages of the HIV care continuum and becoming increasingly limited in the later stages.

We were unable to recruit patients who refused RAPID ART altogether and were therefore unable to explore the role of stigma in the diagnosis and RAPID ART process for those patients. Our samples were recruited in two large urban cities at three well-funded, LGBTQ-affirming, HIV services-providing institutions. Additional research is needed to explore stigma narratives and the impact of stigma on the RAPID process in other regions, rural and suburban settings, and different structural environments (e.g., with different healthcare funding, availability of culturally competent care, and public insurance availability).
