In mature game assessments, teachers need to simultaneously focus on children’s symbolic representation abilities, social role coordination, and self-regulation, but over half of teachers still focus solely on the single dimension of “whether game tasks are completed”. Traditional standardized tests have extremely low validity in game contexts, while recommended methods such as anecdotal records and video analysis are difficult to implement effectively due to issues such as large data volumes and subjective biases. Although teachers recognize the value of games for students’ social development, they tend to prioritize academic learning assessment, further exacerbating the disconnect between practice and concept. 1.2.3.
Challenges and Development Paths for Teachers’ Assessment Literacy in Game-Based Learning · 2026 · DOIThis prospective cohort study remains exploratory; a small sample size (n = 23) and subgroup sample sizes (n = 7–11) limits statistical power and prevented predictive regression models from being performed. The temperament descriptors derived from the Profiler should therefore be interpreted as observational indicators rather than clinical classifications. Moreover, the cross-sectional design limits inferences on how cognitive differences may contribute to academic or behavioural outcomes over time. Longitudinal research following students over multiple academic years is recommended to examine whether early cognitive profiles predict later outcomes such as academic achievement, grade retention, and dropout risk. Such research would integrated cognitivebetter establish the predictive utility of academic-behavioural assessments. Additionally, if diagnosis is identified after the end of the measurement period, findings could better inform future early screening for students at-risk of learning disorders or neurodevelopmental conditions. The study sample was drawn from English medium schools in primarily urban areas participating in the Sri Aurobindo Society’s PI programme, which represents a relatively well-resourced subset of Indian schools. Generalizability to government schools in rural areas, where infrastructure, teacher training, and student-teacher ratios are significantly worse, remains uncertain.
