Both help you find where to submit your paper. One is a self-serve, pay-as-you-go tool with a public benchmark and no subscription (a free account starts with 25 welcome credits); the other is an established paid author-services suite. Here is the honest breakdown.

What Editage Journal Finder is best at

Editage is an established academic-services brand. Journal Finder is one tool inside a much larger suite that also includes human editing, formatting, translation, and end-to-end submission support. If your need is a full author-services package with human experts in the loop — not just a journal shortlist — Editage covers ground we do not. Their brand is trusted and their suite is mature.

We are a self-serve, pay-as-you-go tool, not a managed service. If you want human editing or hands-on submission help, Editage is the right pick.

Where Science AI Journal is different

Four differences worth flagging — these are why the Journal Finder exists:

  • Pay-as-you-go, no subscription. Paste a title + abstract at /scorer and get a Tier 1–5 acceptance verdict plus a ranked journal shortlist in about a second. Creating an account is free and includes 25 welcome credits; a run costs 15 credits, with no recurring bill. Editage's Journal Finder sits inside a registered/paid suite.
  • A public, reproducible benchmark. We score the recommender on 46 real papers with known publication venues across 10 fields and publish the numbers (below). We are not aware of a comparable openly-published accuracy benchmark for Journal Finder.
  • TR-Dizin + regional coverage. Our ~66K-venue index surfaces Turkish national (TR-Dizin) and regional venues that global English-centric tools routinely miss — a real edge for researchers who must publish in nationally-indexed journals for promotion criteria.
  • It's one tool in a research workflow, not a standalone service. The same check feeds into 8-agent AI Review, with a no-APC open-access journal pathway in preparation — find the venue and pre-check readiness in one place.

Our journal-match benchmark — published, not marketing copy

We ran the recommender against 46 real papers whose actual publication venue is known, across 10 disciplines, and measured how often the true venue appears in our top results:

  • True venue in our top 5: 54.3% overall; in our top 10: 67.4%.
  • Strongest fields are chemistry (4 of 4 papers in the top 5), physics and engineering (3 of 4 each) — but those cells hold only four papers, so read them as a direction, not a rate.
  • Weakest are earth science (1 of 4 in the top 5), psychology (2 of 5) and medicine (4 of 9) — we flag this openly rather than quoting only the fields that flatter us.
  • TR-Dizin subset (6 Turkish-indexed venues): 4 of 6 in the top 5 — the regional long tail that larger indexes tend to miss.
  • Methodology is open and the fixtures are real published papers — not cherry-picked. Numbers from the 2026-07-26 run; they move as the index grows. Full method, per-field table and our failed harness runs: /benchmarks.

Why we don't show a head-to-head number

You'll notice we do not claim 'we beat Editage by X%'. That's deliberate. Editage's matching is proprietary and lives behind a registered/paid suite, and we do not scrape or automate against competitor tools — it would violate their terms and isn't how we want to operate. So instead we publish our own transparent, reproducible numbers and invite you to run both on your own paper and judge for yourself. Honest beats hype.

When Editage is the better fit

We'll point you to Editage when these are your needs:

  • You want human editing, formatting, or translation alongside journal selection.
  • You want hands-on, managed submission support from an established services brand.
  • You prefer a full author-services package and don't mind paying for it.

When Science AI Journal is the better fit

We're the right pick when:

  • You want an instant journal shortlist with an acceptance-tier verdict, pay-as-you-go on credits (15 credits a run; a free account starts with 25 welcome credits) rather than a subscription.
  • You publish in, or target, Turkish (TR-Dizin) or regional venues that global tools under-cover.
  • You want the venue recommendation to flow straight into a calibrated 8-agent AI peer review and, when it opens, a no-APC open-access publication path.
  • You value an openly-benchmarked, reproducible tool over a black box.
