Directions The present study has certain limitations resulting from the characteristics of the adopted methodological approach. This limitation requires further research into land use/land cover patterns within individual GI units, with a particular focus on the spatial distribution of green areas forming the GI system, both in terms of their current state and temporal changes. In future stages of GI system monitoring, the scope of research should also be extended to include other types of development, particularly residential areas, as this form of land use is currently expanding in an uncontrolled manner under existing legal and spatial planning conditions (e.g. Kudłacz & Karwińska, 2021; Solecka et al., 2017).
